the lion the witch and the wardrobe
In order to be an effective translation from the book to the movie the screenwriters would need to include. The innocents of Lucy and the personalities of each child. They would need to include Lucy and Mr.Tumnas. The theme of innocents and that anything is possible. They would also need to keep the main storyline and the battle. This book can appeal to both adults and children because of the magic and the fantasy world that every child wishes to discover also the concept of being a hero.It can appeal to adults because of the intense battle scene and by making the characters a lot more dramatic such as making the white witch truly look scary and by doing a good job on the creatures so they truly look real. The magic can also appeal to adults because it brings you back to a magic place that almost every child dreams about.
Radical Film Translation of Great Expectations
After watching the film version of Great Expectations The film does maintain the integrity of the original text because it kept the main ideas from the book such as Pip(Fin) meeting Estella and falling for her and Miss.Havisham. The screenwriters put a modern twist when making the movie that made viewers today realte to the movie. Viewers today cannot relate to Pip who grew up in London and his great expectation is to be a gentlemen but they can relate to Fin a boy living a lower class life in Florida and dreaming of becoming a famous artist in New York. I feel that the movie is a lot more interesting because you can relate to the characters and also they took out a lot of unnecessary scene in order to make the movie less confusing.
Evaluative Criteria
when translating a novel to a book you have to pay close attention to ever detail and description in the book. If i was a screen writer and had to make a criteria of how to make a film as true to the novel as possible i would use three main concepts. Keeping to the main message in the novel, keeping the main relationships between characters the same and keeping the same mood of the novel. It is important that a screenwriter sticks to the main message of the novel because that is truly what makes a person like a novel or not. Keeping the relationships between characters is important because an author develops certain characters to help make the story work and if they are not in the movie it changes the novel all together. finally it is important to visually make the movie appealing to viewers when a person goes to see a novel that they read they except to see something similar to what they imagine when reading the novel. All these concepts i feel are the main ideas that should be looked at when criticizing a film that is based on a novel
